Would you present your work at a CreativeSquat Pecha Kucha event?
Absolutely! Please send me info.
About Me:
I am a working artist who is new to Dallas! I just graduated with my M.F.A in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University. My background is in music however, I consider myself a Mixed Media artist. I really have a love and appreciation for photography and sculpture in addition to painting. Visual artists that inspire me are Lee Bontecou, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Joel-Peter Witkin and Mark Rothko. Musicians who inspire me are Meredith Monk, Lisa Gerrard,(Dead Can Dance) Bjork and Tori Amos
Molting, exposure, and protection are stages of renewal. This invigoration is both mysterious and thought provoking. If we can regenerate, is there a beginning or end? Is growth linear, or is it constantly moving? Through each strand of loss, are we ample? Does this expose our vessel from protection or vulnerability?
"Regeneration" will appear in a state of flux similar to that of deep memories; tangible yet unstable. I use pig hide as base human senses and urges. The glutton represents a lack of benevolence and proliferation of greed which causes destructiveness within human nature. These raw objects are an extension of my own skin. I transformed my skin into a stonewall that gives me a false sanctuary from man-kind's dilemmas. Transforming this hide to a fragile skin is necessary in facilitating change. Change is not linear and this paradigm is reflected in my studio practice.
